Yunnan Key Laboratory of Stomatology (YKLS)Kunming Medical University was started from Yunnan research center for oral and maxillofacial surgery founded in 1988. The lab was approved by Yunnan Education Department as the Key Laboratory of University for Stomatology in 2007, Yunnan provincial Research Institute of Stomatology in 2014.Then in 2021, it was appointed by Yunnan Province Science and Technology Department as Yunnan Key Laboratory of Stomatology.
With 30 years of construction and development, the YKLS has been well recognized as the only key provincial research institution in the field of stomatology in Yunnan, which plays a crucial role in discipline construction and personnel training, also in medical science and technology innovation system in Yunnan and Western China.
The YKLS aims at the transformation from oral health care model into a full life cycle oral health management and precision medical model. Based on the needs of the oral health, the development of economy, and the rich and unique natural resources in Yunnan Province, the cutting-edge research activities in the YKLS features comprehensive prevention and treatment of oral diseases (such as oral cancer) with high incidence in border areas, oral health and microecology of Yunnan ethnic minorities, and prevention and treatment of oral diseases with endemic drugs derived from plants and animals.
In recent five years, the YKLS has taken 63 scientific and technological projects at provincial and ministerial level, including 31 grants of the NSFC and the total scientific research fund amounts to 37.3568 million yuan. More than 90 papers were published on SCI. The YKLS also holds 6 provincial awards for scientific and technological achievements, 30 authorized patents for innovation.
With histomorphology, molecular biology and oral functional materials research platform, the YKLS is hosted in more than 1000m2 facility equipped with advanced experiment instruments worth more than 10 million yuan，which contains micro-CT, Cutting & Grinding devices, Confocal Laser Scanning Microscope, Live Cell Imaging System, Real-time Quantitative PCR Detecting System, High-Speed Refrigerated centrifuge, etc.
Based on the acheievements of several generations of stomatologists in Kunming Medical University, the YKLS has built a comprehensive team consisting of scientific specialists, clinical researchers and teaching staff, also built itself into a first-class stomatological research institution in Yunnan province. Aiming at the frontier development of stomatology at home and abroad, the YKLS is committed to creating an innovative training base for stomatological talents in frontier regions, a service center for the transformation of stomatological research results and a platform for interdisciplinary scientific research innovation.
